Sister Mary Sue Carwile, former principal of St. James School in Falls Church, was elected second councilor for the congregational leadership of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary this summer. The election, involving 174 delegates, was held at Villa Maria House of Studies in Immaculata, Pa.

Also elected were: Sister Mary Ellen Tennity, general superior of the congregation; Sister John Evelyn DiTrolio, sister assistant; Sister Monica Therese Sicilia, first councilor; and Sister Kathleen Monica Schipani, third councilor.

In addition to providing leadership and guidance during their five-year term, the General Administration oversees the work of the IHMs in the U.S. and South America, which includes education at all levels and pastoral and other diverse outreach ministries.

The IHMs of the Immaculata branch comprise more than 550 sisters who staff Catholic schools, parishes and outreach programs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, Florida and Peru.

The charism of the sisters is love, which continues to manifest itself today in the sisters’ joyful service of God and his people; creative hope, which puts all its confidence in God’s loving providence; and fidelity, which inspires fervor in their vocation in Christ and in their mission in the church.

Sister Mary Kathryn Teresa Clemmer, previously assistant principal, succeeded Sister Mary Sue as principal of St. James School.
