Father Daniel Hamilton, 75, former pastor of St. Mary of the
Immaculate Conception in Fredericksburg, died Dec. 26.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 2 at St. Elizabeth
Ann Seton Church in Lake Ridge by Bishop Michael F. Burbidge. Father James C. Bruse,
pastor of Our Lady of the Blue Ridge Church in Madison, was the homilist.
Father Hamilton will be buried at a later date in Pennsylvania.
Father Hamilton was born Jan. 25, 1943 in Johnstown, Pa. He
graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1966. He also served in the
U.S. Army from 1964 to1966, including service in Vietnam.
After college Father Hamilton moved to the Washington area to be
near family. He studied at Saint Francis Seminary in Loretto, Pa. and at the
Washington Theological Coalition in Silver Spring. He was ordained a priest for
the Diocese of Richmond by Bishop John J. Russell May 13, 1972.
Father Hamilton served as parochial vicar at St. Louis Church in
Alexandria (1972-75), St. John the Beloved Church in McLean (1975-79), Queen of
Apostles Church in Alexandria (1979-81,1982-87), and as administrator of St.
Stephen Church in Middleburg (1981-82). He served as pastor of St. Elizabeth
Ann Seton Church in Woodbridge (1987-2000) and St. Mary of the Immaculate
Conception Church in Fredericksburg (2000-02). He retired from active priestly
ministry in 2002.
