Ireton defeats Good Counsel to capture lacrosse title

Bishop Ireton players celebrate their 10-9 victory over top-ranked Good Counsel to win the 2016 WCAC lacrosse championship. The game was played May 9 at the University of Maryland’s Ludwig Field.

Sophomore Lexi Ledoyen scored the winning goal on a pass from
senior Kelly Larkin with seven seconds left on the clock as
the Bishop Ireton Cardinals from Alexandria (18-3) defeated
top-ranked Our Lady of Good Counsel High School from Olney,
Md., 10-9 to capture their second Washington Catholic
Athletic Conference title in the past three years.

The game was played May 9 at the University of Maryland’s
Ludwig Field.

Ireton Junior Kayla Duperrouzel scored three consecutive
goals in the second half to tie the game at 9 goals apiece
and set up the heroics by Ledoyen and Larkin, who was named
the league’s player of the year.

There was no drama on the boys’ side as Gonzaga High School
of Washington defeated DeMatha High School of Hyattsville,
Md., 14-5 to capture its seventh straight conference title.
