School has begun for 36 of the 44 diocesan schools, as 16 opened their doors to students Aug. 20, while 20 more began classes Aug. 21.

A steady stream of cars began pouring into the parking lot at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More School in Arlington at 7:40 a.m. Aug. 21, as Father Nicholas R. Barnes, parochial vicar, greeted parents and children, running back and forth to open car doors.

Shortly before 8 a.m., students lined up by grade, recited the pledge of allegiance, and entered the school with smiles of anticipation as parents waved and took pictures outside the gate.
