Kathleen McNutt, principal of St. Louis School in Alexandria, has
been named head of school at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria effective
July 1. McNutt succeeds Thomas J. Curry.
“I am very pleased to appoint Kathleen McNutt as head of school
at Bishop Ireton High School,” said Bishop Michael F. Burbidge. “I look forward
to collaborating with Kathleen in the next chapter of Bishop Ireton’s
outstanding history.”
McNutt already has several connections to Ireton. She is the mother
of three alumni and two current students, including a daughter who will
graduate this year. Her husband, Geoff, graduated from Ireton in 1987. She
serves as a member of the school’s board of governors.
She has been a parishioner of St. Louis Church since 1977 and she
attended St. Louis School from third through eighth grade. She graduated from
St. Mary’s Academy in Alexandria, which was Ireton’s “sister school.” She earned
a bachelor of science degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg,
specializing in early childhood education and developmental reading. She earned
a master’s in educational administration and supervision from Marymount
University in Arlington. She has a K-12 supervision license from the state of
Virginia.
McNutt, who taught in public and private schools in Northern
Virginia, began teaching at St. Louis in 2009. She was named Early Childhood
Licensure Director in 2011 and headed the St. Louis Preschool Project in
2011-12, overseeing the business plan, construction process and educational
implementation process.
