An Irish History Poetry Contest, organized by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Daughters of Erin Division, was held at Our Lady of Hope School in Potomac Falls.
The subject for the inaugural contest was St. Patrick, whose feast day was March 17. Winners were selected based on comprehension, writing, organization, and creativity, and were awarded prize money.
The winners for grades 3-5 were Julian D. Murcia (first); Maggie McIntosh (second); and Mary Wilson (third). The winner for grades 6-8 was Lucy Panning.
LAOH is a sisterhood of Irish and Irish American Catholic women who promote the Catholic faith and Irish traditions and culture. The order’s patron is St. Brigid of Ireland. They meet monthly at Our Lady of Hope Church.
