Freshmen outreach and Welcome Week are big parts of each year for the Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg.
CCM welcomed the incoming class by distributing more than 2,000 cookies last month on move-in day. Each cookie bag contained chocolate chip cookies lovingly baked by our local community, a message of welcome, an invitation to our first week events, and a magnet with our Mass and liturgy schedule. Welcome events included ax throwing and rock climbing.
Each year at UMW starts with Club Carnival, and the ministry made sure to have a table and plenty of students to reach out and invite others to join.
For the first time ever, according to Father Richard A. Miserendino, chaplain, the school’s CCM joined the Catholic Campus Ministry at George Mason University in Fairfax for their annual leadership workshop last year. Student leaders were grateful for the opportunity to grow in faith, friendship, discipleship, and leadership alongside their peers at their neighbor to the north.
