Mass and anointing of sick March 23

The Order of Malta, Northern Virginia Region (Federal Association USA) will host a Mass and Anointing of the Sick March 23 at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington.

Arrive by 2:30 p.m. to secure parking and seating for the Mass. Bishop Michael F. Burbidge will celebrate the Mass. Bishop Emeritus Paul S. Loverde will concelebrate, joined by several diocesan priests.

Organizers welcome all including residents of assisted living and long-term care facilities. An estimated 300 people attended the Mass last year, with many receiving the Anointing of the Sick.

To identify those desiring the Anointing of the Sick during the Mass, members of the order will distribute special Miraculous Medals on blue ribbons. At the conclusion of the Mass, small bottles of Lourdes water will be given each attendee. Those attending the Mass will be invited to submit written prayer intentions that will be placed in the Grotto in Lourdes, France. Members of the order from around the world bring malades, individuals suffering from illness, to the renowned Marian shrine for physical and spiritual healing.
