On Holy Thursday, Christ ate his Last Supper. During the meal, he instituted the Eucharist and the priesthood, and gave his followers an example of servant leadership by washing the disciples’ feet.

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge asked Massgoers to pray for priests, to follow Christ’s example and to treasure the Eucharist during his homily at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday April 1 at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington. “Pray for the grace that you will be filled with Eucharistic wonder and awe, for he is God with us,” he said.

In imitation of Jesus, Bishop Burbidge then washed the feet of seminarians. After the Mass ended, he carried the Eucharist to the altar of repose below the cathedral in Burke Hall.
