The Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA of America in Stafford awarded $5,000 to the Mother of Light Center in Alexandria as part of its annual Drive Out Hunger program, according to an April 17 MAPGA announcement. Another $5,000 installment went to LINK, which serves the communities of Herndon and Sterling.
MOLC, which began in 2019 in Alexandria, is run entirely by volunteers. The center helps those struggling with poverty, food insecurity and homelessness. It also provides programs including after-school ESL summer camps.
Food distribution is a significant part of MOLC’s mission. In 2024, more than 583,000 meals were distributed through its food pantry delivery program. Other items including clothing, diapers and household goods were also distributed.
LINK, which serves Herndon and Sterling, is made up of churches, organizations, and individuals. Its all-volunteer staff believes in the power of selfless service and the importance of providing people in crisis with unconditional love.
The organization accepts food from schools in Fairfax and Loudoun counties, restaurants and stores, and redistributes it to those in need. LINK also provides a mobile food pantry on the second Tuesday of each month in the rear parking lot of Christ the Redeemer Church in Sterling.
“On behalf of the Middle Atlantic PGA and our more than 1,200 PGA of America Golf Professionals, we are proud to partner with Mother of Light Center and LINK Against Hunger and support their amazing programs that aid people in need throughout our communities,” said Jeremy Greiner, PGA, MAPGA Central Chapter President. “Each year, the MAPGA raises over $6 million for local charities, and we are honored to give back to those in need throughout the communities we serve.”
