40 years

Deacon Roger T. (Ted) Ostrom is assigned to St.
Michael Church in Annandale. He and his wife, the late
Patricia Bruce Ostrom, have five children.

He was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio. After serving
as a chief electronic technician in the Coast Guard, he was
accepted to officer candidate school and was commissioned in
1962.

He was ordained to the permanent diaconate by Arlington
Bishop Thomas J. Welsh March 22, 1975. Following his
ordination, he served as deacon for the Coast Guard until his
retirement in 1978 with the rank of commander.

That year, Deacon Ostrom was appointed director of Christ
House in Alexandria by Bishop Welsh, a position he held until
1984. He served as assistant director and then director of
the diocesan Office of Family Life (1984-99) and served two
terms on the Diaconal Council (2003-05 and 2012-15).

His diaconate assignments include: St. Ambrose Church in
Annandale (1978-2001) and St. Michael Church in Annandale
(2001-14).

30 years

Deacon Danny Johnson retired in 2012 from active
service in the diaconate. He is married to the former Mary
Biddle, and they have one child.

He was born March 3, 1946, in Charleston, W.Va. He professed
simple vows at the Sacred Heart Capuchin Franciscan Friary in
Baraga, Mich., but later decided to pursue a secular life. A
veteran of the Vietnam War, he went on to serve as an officer
with the Washington Metropolitan Police Department.

He was ordained to the permanent diaconate by Arlington
Bishop John R. Keating June 1, 1985.

Deacon Johnson served his entire diaconate career at Our Lady
of Angels Church in Woodbridge (1985-2012) where he was a
youth minister and director of religious education.

Deacon Nicholas J. LaDuca Jr. is assigned to Holy
Spirit Church in Annandale. He is married to the former
Dorothy Casatuta, and they have five children.

He was born Dec. 1, 1940, in Bronx, N.Y. A graduate of the
U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., he was commissioned in
the U.S. Marine Corps in 1962. He served for 20 years,
including an assignment in the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Division, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1982.

He earned his doctorate in business administration from
George Washington University in Washington and worked for
Computer Data Systems.

He was ordained to the permanent diaconate by Arlington
Bishop John R. Keating June 1, 1985. His diaconate
assignments include: Church of the Nativity in Burke
(1985-89); St. Mary of Sorrows Church in Fairfax (1989-2002);
St. Leo the Great Church in Fairfax (2002-11); and Corpus
Christi Mission in South Riding (2011-12). He taught theology
at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax (2000-13).

Deacon LaDuca served on the Diaconal Council 2003-05 and
2005-08, and is currently vice chairman of the council during
his third term.

25 years

Deacon Charles H. Duck resides in Oakton, and is
awaiting his next diaconate assignment. He is married to the
former Beryl Babineaux and they have two children.

He was born Jan. 19, 1947, in Garden City, Kan. After earning
his bachelor’s from the University of Southwestern Louisiana,
he worked in the oil and gas industry and in information
technology consulting.

He was ordained to the permanent diaconate for the
Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, Texas, Jan. 13, 1990.

Deacon Duck served in several administrative positions in
Texas, including: business administrator for St. Anthony of
Padua Church in Woodlands (2003-07); director of
administrative services and parish services at the
Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Chancery (2007-12); and
business manager at Frassati Catholic High School in Spring
(2012-13).

His diaconate assignments include: Holy Family Church in
Ashland, Ky. (1990-92); Sacred Heart Church in Richmond,
Texas (1992-93); Prince of Peace Church in Houston
(1993-2003); and St. Anthony of Padua Church in Woodlands,
Texas (2003-14). In 2014, he moved to the Arlington Diocese
to be closer to his children and was assigned to Holy Trinity
Church in Gainesville, Va.
