Father Robert C. Cilinski, pastor of Church of the Nativity
in Burke, officially concluded the parish’s 2015 Operation
Starfish campaign by presenting a check to Food For The Poor
CEO/President Robin Mahfood May 28.
The donation will be used to continue the development of Good
Shepherd Village near Grand Boulage, Haiti. The village is
named in memory of Father Richard Martin, former Nativity
pastor, who worked with Food For The Poor for 16 years.
Father Martin died in May 2014.
“This year, we began a new tradition,” said Father Cilinski.
“Each year on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of Father
Martin’s passing, we will have a second collection at all our
Masses for Operation Starfish. Thus, Father Martin and his
legacy of love for the poor will be remembered in our parish
at a special time each year, with prayer and a tangible
expression of mercy toward the weakest and poorest among us.”
Scheduled to be built out over three years, the Good Shepherd
Village eventually will include 120 houses, solar lighting, a
community center, health clinic, agriculture projects and a
kindergarten.
