Order of Malta raises $10,000 for free medical care

A cycling fundraiser sponsored by the Northern Virginia Region of the Order of Malta recently raised $10,000 in support of diocesan Catholic Charities Mother of Mercy Free Medical Clinics.

Knight of Malta Paul Nasto presented the contribution to Bishop Michael F. Burbidge and Stephen J. Carattini, president and CEO of diocesan Catholic Charities, at the chancery Nov. 19.

Seventeen sponsored riders participated in the Sept. 14 ride, taking one of three possible routes, all starting at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Vienna. Nasto hopes to take the inaugural event nationwide to benefit various Catholic charities.
