What’s distinctive about your parish? What is your parish’s charism? All Saints Catholic Church is a large, vibrant, multicultural faith community. The parish is known for its welcoming atmosphere, active ministries and focus on being people in service of others. Generations of families call All Saints their home; some have been parishioners 50-plus years, worshipping alongside individuals and families who joined the community more recently.
All Saints is just a short walk from scenic Old Town Manassas. The parish also supports the St. Gabriel Mission (established in 2017) to serve the needs of the growing Catholic population in Manassas Park. Together the parish and mission celebrate five Masses in English and five Masses in Spanish on Sundays.
What’s the one unique thing visitors to your parish should do or see while there? Designed architecturally to unify all the buildings on campus, the parish courtyard includes peaceful areas for reflection featuring statuaries of angels and saints, and a beautiful rendering of the Blessed Mother that serves as the focal point of the space. At the main entrance of the church is a striking three-panel Communion of Saints stained-glass window, anchored by Christ, the Good Shepherd, reminding all as they enter that we are a part of the Communion of Saints.
Is there a special way your parish encourages and supports faith formation? All Saints supports faith formation across all age groups through its parish school (pre-K-eighth grade), religious education program, youth ministry activities for middle school through young adults, and Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children (RCIA/RCIC). The religious education team oversees parishwide preparation for the sacraments of reconciliation, holy Eucharist and Confirmation. Parishioners are further encouraged to grow in their faith through participation in prayer groups, Bible studies, Legion of Mary, That Man is You, Senior Luncheons, Marriage Apostolate and more.
The All Saints Jail Ministry brings a message of hope and God’s unconditional love to inmates of the Prince William-Manassas-Regional Adult Detention Center through the ministry of presence, celebration of liturgies, reception of sacraments, and study of faith and Scripture.
How are you supporting the faith journey of particular cultures represented in your parish? All Saints and St. Gabriel Mission offer RCIA classes in Spanish, and host Spanish-language prayer groups, Bible studies, and Stations of the Cross. Some feast day celebrations at All Saints incorporate cultural devotions. The feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe includes a midnight procession prior to Mass with music by the Our Lady of Guadalupe Choir. All Saints has a Filipino American prayer group and celebrates Mass throughout Simbang Gabi. Special observances are planned with the Portuguese community for the feast of Our Lady of Fatima.
What would a visitor say about your parish, and how do new parishioners get involved? Visitors often remark about the sense of welcoming they feel at All Saints and the variety of ministries available to parishioners for fellowship and to further engage in their faith. The Welcoming Committee at All Saints contacts new parishioners and provides information about activities, events and volunteer opportunities.
What’s something we should know about your clergy? Most of the All Saints clergy speak multiple languages. They are exceedingly caring and hardworking as they minister to the parishioners. During the pandemic, the priests launched podcasts, created faith-focused video series, and shared evening prayer through social media, as the parish Facebook page and YouTube channel grew to several thousand followers.
Would you like to share anything else about your parish? Expressing faith through the performing arts is a hallmark of the parish. All Saints music ministry features nine choirs plus a hand bell choir, and hosts the All Saints Concert Series, showcasing local/national classical and sacred music performers. The award-winning Upper Room Theatre Ministry hosts an annual winter cabaret and a much-anticipated summer musical that serves as a community-building event while raising funds to support youth mission trips. Upper Room Theatre recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and plans to present West Side Story in July 2022.
The Bethany Food Pantry, operating under the umbrella of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, is now in its 11th year providing for the food-insecure in the local community. Our parishioners actively support this ministry by volunteering their time and keeping the shelves stocked with food throughout the year.
