Father Andrew J. Fisher, pastor of St. Ambrose Church in Annandale since 2011, has been assigned pastor of St. Timothy Church in Chantilly, effective June 25.

He oversaw the construction of a new Romanesque style church following a 14-year project supported by three capital campaigns amounting to nearly $10 million. At the Dec. 11, 2023, dedication, Father Fisher told the Catholic Herald: “Many parts of the new church’s design, including the red brick exterior, seek to imitate the Basilica of St. Ambrose in Milan, where the saint is buried. We are also honored that the Basilica of St. Ambrose gave our parish a fourth-century brick from the actual tomb of St. Ambrose.” He called the brick the “cornerstone” of the new church.

Father Fisher is a native of Northern Virginia. He attended Mt. St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md. where he played four years of NCAA Division One baseball.  He also attended Mount St. Mary’s Seminary and was ordained to the priesthood May 16, 1998, by Bishop Emeritus Thomas J. Welsh, after the death of Bishop John R. Keating March 22, 1998.

He has served as parochial vicar of St. William of York Church in Stafford, 1998; Queen of Apostles Church in Alexandria, 2007; and the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington, 2009. Father Fisher also served as director of liturgy at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, 2001-07. He was named pastor of St. Ambrose by Bishop Paul S. Loverde.

Father Fisher is a magistral chaplain for the Order of Malta; a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre; chaplain for Catholic Athletes for Christ; and a member of the Historical Commission of the Martyrs of La Florida.
