The Alexandria division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians hosted its annual Irish hooley to kick off the month of St. Patrick in the Basilica of St. Mary School gym in Alexandria March 1, raising more than $20,000 to benefit Catholic Charities Christ House.
More than 400 guests enjoyed Irish food, drink, music and dancing at the sold-out event, whose attendees included the Irish emissary to the U.S., Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason.
“Three years ago, we raised $9,000 at the hooley for Christ House,” said Ken Wolfe, Hibernians’ division president. “Two years ago, we raised $11,000 and last year we raised $13,000. This year, our generous sponsors and attendees helped us shatter our record, to raise over $20,000 for Christ House.”
