More than 80 missionaries from around the country participated in this year’s Biking for Babies National Ride, with the North Carolina team passing through Arlington July 17-18.
Biking for Babies is a pro-life nonprofit dedicated to supporting mothers in need. The organization commits to equipping a group of young adults, physically and spiritually, to journey on a cross-country cycling expedition called the National Ride. The nearly 600mile ride takes six days and promotes personal transformation, the support of expecting families and the renewal of the culture.
This year’s National Ride took place July 14-19 with missionaries divided into regional teams. Each missionary partners with a pregnancy resource center to help promote their mission of providing free support and resources to those experiencing unexpected, difficult or at-risk pregnancies.
Teams from around the country began their journey July 14 and ended at a Celebration of Life event July 19 in St. Louis or Philadelphia.
The North Carolina team consisted of team leader Maddie Ferrero, Ryan Hagmann, Daniel Schmidt, Patrick Nelson, Jonathan Eger, Paul Hendricks, Ana Daley, Victoria Canales and William Kreps. The team spent the night at the home of Monica Darnell, a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington and Ferrero’s aunt.
During their stay, the team attended Mass at St. Agnes Church in Arlington, celebrated by Father Steve Oetjen, who is in residence at the parish. Confession and adoration were also made available, and local young adults also attended Mass.
