Three religious sisters with ties to the Arlington diocese recently marked jubilees.
Sister Bernadette McManigal, a Sister of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, marks her Diamond Jubilee this year, having spent 70 years in the religious life. She was a teacher and administrator around the country and served as diocesan school superintendent for the Arlington diocese for eight years under Bishop Paul S. Loverde. She retired in 2016 and returned to Mount Carmel retirement home in Dubuque, Iowa.
Reflecting on her years as a BVM, Sister McManigal said, “Thank you for the wonderful life I have been privileged to live.”
Two Sisters of the Precious Blood who served in the Arlington diocese recently celebrated milestone anniversaries of entrance into the congregation.
Sister Carolyn Hoying marked 60 years in the religious life. She served as an elementary school teacher at St. Anthony of Padua School in Falls Church, 1967-1970. Originally from Ohio, she served around the country and as coordinator of vocation ministry for the congregation for nearly a decade. She currently volunteers as an urban farmer.
Sister Nancy Kinross is marking 60 years in the religious life. She was a junior high and high school teacher around the country, including at St. Anthony of Padua School in Falls Church, 1967-1971.
She was the congregation’s novitiate formation director and served in leadership roles for Unda-USA, a professional organization for Catholic broadcasters. Her ministry continues to focus on prayer and advocacy.
