Every year, priests, seminarians, and laypeople from across the Archdiocese of Washington participate in a cycling ride to promote vocations through prayer, sacrifice, and raising financial support.

This year’s Ride for Vocations was originally scheduled for Oct. 1 but was postponed to Oct. 9 due to weather.

It began with Mass at Sacred Heart in La Plata, Md., celebrated by Father Mark Ivany, director of priest vocations of the Archdiocese of Washington.

After Mass, nearly 120 cyclists of all experience levels set off. Cyclists could choose to ride 100, 70, or 50-mile distances.

Among the stops were St. John Francis Regis Church in Hollywood, Md., St. Joseph Church in Morganza, Md., and St. Mary Church, Newport in Charlotte Hall, in Charlotte Hall, Md.

For the first time this year, there was a 21-mile route on the local bike trail that started and ended at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, DC.
