Last fall, five senior athletes from Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Potomac Shores committed to play at colleges and universities around the country.
For one player, her signing is a family tradition.
Chinenye Obasi has signed to run track at the U.S. Naval Academy, a NCAA Division I school.
Benedictine College, an NAIA school, has signed lacrosse player Catalina O’Connor.
Therese Muskett will play field hockey at NCAA Division II school Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina.
Matthew Hawkins has committed to play lacrosse at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla., an NCAA Division II school.
Meghan Norko’s signing is a huge milestone for the Norko family and for John Paul. Never before have three members of one John Paul family all signed to play at the college level — and all in the same sport. Meghan will play lacrosse at Saint Francis University, an NCAA Division I school in Loretto, Pa. Jenna Norko (’21) currently plays at University of Lynchburg, an NCAA Division III school, and Emily Norko (’23) plays at University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, also an NCAA Division III school.
“We are so proud of our athletes, not just for their athletic success but for the way they conduct themselves and continue to let their faith guide them even after they leave John Paul,” said athletic director Donald Palmer. “Their faith and dedication are evident in all they do. We are pleased they are being recognized for their hard work.”
