The Bishop O’Connell boys cross country team took first place at the Oct. 21 Virginia Catholic Cross Country Championship in Newport News.

Junior Jayse Brefzynski and freshman Landon Brefzynski captured first and second, crossing the finish line with times of 16:04 and 16:18 respectively. Sophomore Peter Fleenor (8th), and seniors Lance Jayme (9th), and Ryan Street (20th) rounded out the Knights top five.

This was the team’s second championship of the season, having won the Arlington County Championship three weeks earlier.

“This team has worked hard since the summer, and are reaping the benefits now,” said coach James Connor. “It is very exciting to see so many of our runners greatly improve over the course of the season.”
