More than 100 senior theology students from Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington visited the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna last month.

These 132 students spent the day in the gardens, reading and discussing “Laudato Si,’ ” Pope Francis’ encyclical on Care for our Common Home, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

“We prayed, marveled in the glory of His creation, and were surprised by His delightful creatures —turtles, egrets, myriad of birds and geese,” said Joanie Coolidge, the students’ theology teacher. “It was great to see our students unplug and refresh.”
