Junior captains Rachel Stuart and Kate Daly (combined four hits and three runs scored) led the Wolves of Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Potomac Shores to an exciting 5-4 victory in nine innings last month.

Stuart pitched all nine, keeping Flint Hill in Oakton off balance with a mix of pitches while smacking two extra base hits with two RBIs including the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Daly had a stunning 12 put-outs at shortstop including a barehanded toss to senior captain catcher Virginia Weina at home to get a key out.

Stellar defense was the order of the day for the Wolves as Mikalya Tellado, Maggie Cook and Leah Smith backed up their hurler with crucial outs all day long. Tellado’s crucial over-the-shoulder catch in the top of the ninth gave the Wolves the chance in the bottom of the inning where she then scored the winning run on Stuart’s blast. The Wolves already have matched their win total from last season at the midway point of the current campaign.
