Ireton wins cheerleading competition

The celebration is underway after the Bishop Ireton High School varsity team won the grand championship title and four individual titles at the Christian Cheerleaders of America competition in Fayetteville, N.C. earlier this month.

The varsity cheerleading team from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria won the grand championship title at the Christian Cheerleaders of America competition March 6 in Fayetteville, N.C.

The title was awarded for the highest score overall in all divisions competing. In addition, the team won national championship titles in the four categories in which it competed, as well as “Best Stunt Sequence” for the pyramid performance.

Led by Coach Angela Hope-Eskew, the team has won first place at the competition nearly every year since 2016.
