Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria is once again at full enrollment for the 2025-26 academic year with 950 students. After celebrating its 60th anniversary during the previous school year, Ireton is blazing ahead into the next 60 years and beyond.
Ireton continues to be led by Kathleen McNutt, beginning her seventh year as head of school, and Tim Guy, who begins his fifth year as principal.
“We’re excited to welcome a new crop of very talented faculty members to the Bishop Ireton community this year,” Guy said. “Our mission as a school is to promote spiritual, intellectual, creative, social, and physical development and we are excited to see our new faculty join our existing faculty in challenging our students to excel in our rigorous, Catholic, college-preparatory curriculum.”
The faculty welcomes Cordelia Aldridge (math), Brittany Carey (receptionist and admissions assistant), Janell Cline (math), Katie Cunningham (assistant theater director), Kevin Grinstead (social studies), Emily Gunlycke (math and engineering), Ronajah Holmes (athletic trainer), Celia Kennedy (special services), Katie Madigan (English), Mary McAlvey (counselor), Patrick Riley ’19 (computer science), Matt Velasco (math and science), Stephanie Washington (executive assistant to head of school) and Mary White (part-time English teacher).
Ireton also welcomes Jesse Mungin who will serve as Ireton’s first college and career specialist. Mungin will collaborate with the school counseling team and help upperclassmen as they determine the next step in their academic and professional careers.
On the academic side, Ireton has a 25% increase in AP class sections and the addition of a new dual enrollment course through Marymount University in Arlington: DE advanced programming, data structures and algorithms.
On the athletic side, the school will field its first all-girls ice hockey team in the winter sports season. The program and team will be led by Stephen Gerke and Tanner Jones.
Father Joseph Moschetto is the new chaplain at Ireton. He comes from St. Veronica Church in Chantilly. Father Moschetto will work from the newly renovated St. Francis de Sales Chapel, the center of campus and a place of prayer for the community. The chapel altar was blessed and dedicated by Bishop Michael F. Burbidge last March.
In this Jubilee year focused on hope, Ireton has chosen the quote from school patron, St. Francis de Sales: “Be at peace. Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life; rather look to them with full hope as they arise.” This quote will be a guide throughout the school year.
“We’re overjoyed to have full enrollment at Bishop Ireton for another consecutive year,” McNutt said. “As I begin my seventh year as head of school, I remain grateful to be a part of this tremendous, thriving community of faith and learning. Last year’s 60th anniversary was a wonderful opportunity to look back at the school’s history. Now, we look forward to the next chapter of Bishop Ireton High School with great hope. I’m excited to welcome back our returning students and eager to meet our new families and students who will call BI home for the next four years.”
