Students and teachers at Holy Spirit School in Annandale had a “Nothing but Faith Day” Jan. 6.
The retreat was centered around the Epiphany. Deacon Tom Grodek read “The Wise Men Who Found Christmas” by Raymond Arroyo to the students before Mass. Buddy classes then broke into groups for activities and discussion on the Three Wise Men and their journey to find the new king. Students were asked to think about gifts they can bring to the Christ Child each day.
Activities were set up in classrooms based on the messages in the book — the Wise Men’s journey to follow the light, go to the king and discover the truth. Pre-K students worked on “following the light” with their flashlights and middle schoolers were blindfolded.
After lunch the students learned about Mardi Gras and enjoyed King Cake from New Orleans. A prayer service in the church involved students placing gifts at the creche based on what they learned.
