During the 2023-24 school year, St. Paul VI Catholic High School celebrated the 25th anniversary of the PVI Options program, which provides students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities access to an individualized, inclusive, student-centered Catholic education.
PVI Options began in September 1998. This year, PVI Options had its largest graduating class yet. The graduates have a variety of plans, ambitions and hopes for the future.
John Hohmann and his family will move to Summerville, S.C., late this summer. Summerville is the birthplace of sweet tea. It’s about 30 miles west of Charleston, S.C. Hohmann will start working with a job coach in the fall to secure a career path in technology. Family plans also include a road trip out west to visit Mount Rushmore and catch a concert at Red Rocks. He is exploring Aiken’s Life programs at Clemson University and the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
Jessica Rutherford is going to take a little break after graduation. She currently takes a 1:1 music class every Thursday and will attend a song-writing camp in August. She is working on determining what type of job would be best for her and exploring those options.
Angelina Hoang will attend the Davis Center within Fairfax County Public Schools, where she will receive job and employment training. She also will look into taking computer and technology classes. She hopes to work in the technology field in the future.
Haley Lustig looks forward to attending several weeks of the Get Out of the House Camp with Social Grace and hopes to participate in the STEP program at South Lakes High School in the fall.
Avery Waldrop will celebrate graduation with a girls’ trip to Las Vegas. She will then live her best life in the Outer Banks this summer while exploring future options. She will attend an employment and job training program in Loudoun County Public Schools in the fall.
William Mayaki will take a gap year, spending time with his grandparents and family in Ocean City at their beach house eating out, swimming, shopping, and walking the dog. He plans to see John Legend and Boyz II Men at Wolftrap this summer. Mayaki would like to go to some football games and support his sister at John Champe High School, where she is part of the color guard. He wants to explore a future supporting the film industry, and as a result, he plans to watch as many movies on the big screen as possible. After his gap year, he would like to attend the Life Program at George Mason University in Fairfax.
