Seven students from St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Chantilly competed in DECA’s District Leadership Conference Dec. 2. DECA is an organization that prepares high school and college students to be emerging leaders in business management, entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality and tourism, and marketing. Lauren Ivey (business finance) and Teagan Henry (sports and entertainment marketing) won third place in their categories and earned the right to move on to the state competition in March in Virginia Beach.
St. Paul VI Catholic High School junior Ethan Chisholm was selected to perform in the North Central Virginia Senior Regional Orchestra, one of the four all-regional high school orchestras in Virginia. The concert was held Nov. 11 at Charles Colgan High School in Manassas. Musical pieces included “Symphony No. 2” by Jean Sibelius, “Hoedown” by Aaron Copland, and “Academic Festival Overture” by Johannes Brahms. Chisholm is eligible to audition for the all-state orchestra in Virginia.
St. Paul VI Catholic High School junior Angela Benedict placed first in the local round of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy speech contest. Benedict wrote and recorded a speech about the most significant attributes of democracy. VFW Post 8469 Adjutant and VOD Chair Mike Semenec came to campus Dec. 11 to present Benedict with her award. Her speech will now move on to the district round of the competition.
St. Paul VI Catholic High School senior Katy Schrock was selected through audition to the Virginia Senior Honor Choir. Schrock performed with the honor choir in Richmond during the weekend of Nov. 17, at the Virginia Music Educators Conference. She worked with Amanda Quist, director of choral activities at the University of Miami in Florida.
