Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria will welcome 925 students this school year, the highest ever enrollment in school history. The year begins with an experienced administrative group led by Head of School Kathleen McNutt, beginning her fifth year in this role, and Principal Tim Guy, beginning his third year.
The faculty welcomes Maureen Allen (special services, academic support teacher), Gabrielle Baniqued (computer science and diversity initiative assistant), Wesley Bergen (theology), Tom Cross (social studies), Garrett Fabacher (social studies), Gregory Henderson (special services, DeSales and academic support teacher), Stephen Rice (band director), Stephanie Sensenbrenner (special services, academic support lead teacher), Greg Shaia (math), Faith Stanley (science), Brittany Silva (science), Maria Vazquez (world language), and Pamela Ward (math).
The administration and staff also welcome Jeanne Bliss (assistant principal, dean of faculty), Gavin Brodie (facilities assistant), Courtney Foster (librarian), Kenneth Funny-Haynes (maintenance engineer and bus driver), Catherine Kennedy (school counselor), Kathleen Manor (finance administrator), and Beth Royle (media center assistant).
“We’re very thankful to bring in such talented and impressive additions to our Cardinal family for this school year,” said Guy. “We had numerous strong candidates for our open positions and we’re confident they will bring their expertise and professionalism to our community.”
The school community chose the quote, “Be happy in serving Our Lord and his holy mother: Serve with boundless joy and courage,” from St. Jane de Chantal, as the theme and guiding message for the 2023-24 school year.
“After having a then record student body last year, we’re thrilled once again to welcome another record enrollment of 925 students,” said McNutt. “Throughout the 2023-24 school year, our school community will focus on ‘Service, Joy and Courage’ as we reflect on the quote from St. Jane de Chantal. I’m looking forward to seeing our new students, returning students, faculty and staff back on Cambridge Road. I know it will be a tremendous academic year as we continue our mission to Advance Always.”
