As part of Catholic Schools Week celebrations, eighth graders at St. Ann School in Arlington took on the role of teacher Feb. 1 and teachers sat in student-sized desks in official St. Ann uniforms.

Assistant Principal Kathleen Burgess planned the Teacher Turn Around Day where students were responsible for a grade for the entire morning. To prepare for this, students — following faculty dress code guidelines — met with their assigned teacher to discuss lesson planning, class schedule, classroom rules, and other curriculum and classroom expectations. The students used their assigned faculty room to prepare for class.

Teacher Tom O’Donnell, who graduated from St. Ann’s in 2011, sat at a desk with pencil in hand, as student Isabella Lascialfare instructed him.

In addition to having a little fun with role reversal, the goal of the day was to help students with leadership skills; executive planning and organization; presentation techniques; and collaborative learning and teamwork.
