The O’Connell track and field team traveled to Alexandria May 3 to compete at the Draper Invitational at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School, a major late-season meet that included 30 teams from the Washington metropolitan area. Not only did the girls finish in first place and the boys in a close second, but four school records were broken.

In the boys 200-meter race, Cam Bowser ’26 finished in 21.05 seconds to win the event and take down a 40-plus-year O’Connell record of 21.3 seconds held by NFL great Eric Metcalf ’85. Bowser also nipped Metcalf’s record in the 400-meter race (47.7), with a time of 47.66 seconds. But those weren’t the only O’Connell records to be broken that day. Bowser was the anchor on the boys 4×400 relay — with teammates, Johnny O’Donnell ’27, Luke Collin ’26, and Avery Mosley ’25 — who together ran the race in 3:20.39 to break the record of 3:23.06 set in 2023 (from a team that included O’Donnell’s older brother Nick O’Donnell ’23).

Not to be outdone by the boys, the girls 4×400 relay team of Madison Sullivan ’25, Meegan Zonavetch ’28, Lauren Smith ’28, and Isa Rodriguez ’27 ran a 4:06.49, beating the school record set last year (4:09.52). Indeed, it was a great day to be a Knight.
