Earlier this month, devastating wildfires swept through Maui, Hawaii. The fires demolished much of the historic town of Lahaina and the death toll is at 115 and expected to rise.

Honolulu Bishop Larry Silva sent a letter to dioceses throughout the United States Aug. 11. He petitioned the faithful to consider donating to the Hawaiian Catholic Community Foundation, which uses donations for relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts in Maui.

“As a community of faith, we are called to come together and provide unwavering support to those who are suffering. It is in times like these that our collective love, faith, and compassion can make a tremendous difference,” Bishop Silva wrote.
