This year, St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) falls on a Friday during Lent, when Catholics normally would be required to refrain from eating meat. Bishop Michael F. Burbidge has granted a dispensation in honor of the feast day. He does ask Catholics to instead perform a work of charity, an act of piety or another form of penance during that week.
