The boys basketball team at St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Chantilly traveled to Hawaii over Christmas break to compete in the ‘Iolani Classic. They defeated Maryknoll (Hawaii) and Central Catholic (Oregon) to advance to the championship against No. 3 nationally ranked Sierra Canyon (California) where they fell 52-49.

Following the Hawaii tournament, the boys team competed in the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions Jan. 15, defeating Sierra Canyon 72-65 in the final game to win the tournament.

“These tournaments not only provide a great experience for our players to compete against some amazing teams, but they are a fantastic bonding experience for them as classmates and teammates,” said coach Glenn Farello.

The girls basketball team traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to compete in the United Bank Holiday Invitational in mid-December. This was the team’s third time in 20 years participating in this event.

The team beat Miami 51-27 in the first game and lost to No. 7 ranked DME Academy from Florida 49-37.

“It was an unbelievable trip during a difficult time playing against the nation’s best that also allowed us to spend time enjoying each moment possible with each other as a PVI Family,” said coach Scott Allen.
