The Virginia Catholic Conference, the public policy arm for the dioceses of Richmond and Arlington, issued an alert Jan. 22 that bills legalizing assisted suicide will enter the legislative hearing process.
“Assisted suicide is a deadly, discriminatory and exploitive practice,” the VCC said. “No patient — whether disabled, mentally ill, elderly, or otherwise — should ever be abandoned or discarded. Every person potentially facing end of life should have access to quality medical and palliative care, instead of drugs to hasten their death.”
