The diocesan course platform Porta Fidei premiered its latest course Dec. 12, titled “The Heart of Prayer,” and led by Mary Stanford, theology professor at Christendom College in Front Royal.
The course objective is for viewers to obtain a basic comprehension of Christian prayer and learn some practical tips for cultivating a fruitful prayer life.
One of Stanford’s key takeaways is that prayer is all about relationship. In prayer, we can know the person of God, she said, and when we open ourselves up to him in a moment of prayerful vulnerability, God will make himself known to us and in turn, we come to know more about ourselves. She reflects on passages from sacred Scripture, saints, as well as contemporary authors to highlight the utmost significance prayer has in one’s call to holiness.
