The Knights of Columbus St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Council No. 8183 in Woodbridge was awarded the distinction of Star Council, the international organization’s top honor for local councils. The award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of growing membership, sponsoring Catholic faith formation programs and volunteering through service-oriented activities.
The council sponsored activities based on the pillars of the order: charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. These included a variety of parish and community programs such as Coats for Kids, Food for the Needy, a Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest, a children’s Christmas party and Easter egg hunt, as well as Lenten soup dinners, pancake breakfasts, and hoagie sales. The council also coordinated multiple blood drives, and provided support to St. Margaret of Cortona Transitional Housing, the Hilda Barg Homeless Shelter, and KOVAR, a Virginia Knights of Columbus that supports persons with intellectual disabilities.
