Young furniture-makers

Youths from St. Ann Church in Arlington, including (from left) Tim Kent, Liam Wells, Elena Cannon and Garrett O’Donnell, pose with chairs and tables they made during training for this summer’s WorkCamp. The students raised enough money for their participation in the weeklong service project that they were able to offer parishioners a free raffle of the furniture they made. Diane Phelps, parish coordinator of Youth Ministry, said the 39 youths attending WorkCamp in Quicksburg, June 23-27 will also take prayer intentions from the parish.

More than 800 teens in the Catholic Diocese of Arlington will
give up a week of their summer vacation and head to
Quicksburg to attend the 29th annual Diocesan WorkCamp.

The teens will rebuild their neighbors homes, decks,
wheelchair ramps, roofs and more. Each day is opened and
closed with prayer, Mass and social and spiritual activities
for teens and adult leaders.

The teens will travel with 500 adult leaders, contractors and
volunteers from 41 parishes to Shenandoah County where they
will trade in their cell phones, tablets and electronic
devices for hammers, screwdrivers and paint brushes.

WorkCamp takes place from June 20-26.
