A Mass for permanent deacons and their families was celebrated by Bishop Michael F. Burbidge at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington Sept. 12. Father Paul D. Scalia, episcopal vicar for clergy, and Father Patrick L. Posey, rector, concelebrated.

Following Mass, there was a reception and lunch in Burke Hall. Bishop Burbidge gave remarks, took questions and asked the deacons what they are seeing in their parishes. Many deacons shared the ways they continue to spread the faith and evangelize amid the coronavirus pandemic, including reaching out to parishioners by telephone; continuing the livestream after Mass so viewers can type in questions on the faith; and hosting online Bible studies and prayers.
