Bishop Loverde meets with Pope John Paul II during his ad limina visit in 2004. It was Pope John Paul II who named Bishop Loverde to Hartford in 1988, Ogdensburg in 1993 and Arlington in 1999.

The bishop presents the Spanish-language version of "Go Forth with Hearts on Fire" to Pope Francis Feb. 12, 2014, following the general audience at St. Peter's Basilica. The bishop was in Rome for his annual meeting with the diocesan seminarians at the Pontifical North American College.
