Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde discussed his reaction to
the Supreme Court's landmark ruling requiring states to issue
marriage licenses to individuals of the same sex on WTOP
radio June 26.
Although the bishop emphasized that all people must be
treated with "respect and dignity," he said that the Supreme
Court's ruling "(endangers) the freedom of institutions and
persons who hold that authentic marriage is between one man
and one woman."
Arguing that "a ruling in the civil courts doesn't change
what truth is," Bishop Loverde encouraged Catholics to "pray
for the inner strength
to be rooted in our
convictions" and to "continue to discuss the truth of
marriage with charity."
