    Saint John Academy was founded in 1954 to offer quality Catholic education to parish children. Saint John Academy continues to provide children in pre-school through eighth grade with a Catholic education rooted in rich tradition of academic excellence and spiritual formation, captured by the school’s motto, “Fides, Scientia, et Guadium.” By Faith, children are led beyond themselves to entrust their formation to God. By forming the entire child, we impart the Knowledge for both intellectual and spiritual growth. The Mission of Saint John Academy is manifested in genuine Christian Joy– rooted in the Sacraments, self-sacrifice, charity, and service to others.

    Each student at St. John Academy can recite the school’s mission statement from memory thanks to great leadership of the last several years. SJA seeks a dynamic principal to continue its legacy and steer it into the challenge of the 21st century.

    SJA is the parochial school of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church in McLean, Virginia, a parish with a traditional feel in uncommon circumstances. The Academy combines solid formation in the Catholic faith with academic excellence for the successful education of the whole child – soul, mind and body, offering a first-rate academic curriculum with special area instruction in art, music, voice, PE, Spanish and technology. A Blue Ribbon School of Excellence with a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, SJA is fully accredited by the Virginia Catholic Education Association and is home to 227 students Preschool through 8th grade.

    The Principal serves a vibrant community of dedicated parents and highly qualified faculty committed to the strong Catholic identity and mission of the school. The Principal exercises spiritual and instructional leadership, reports directly to the Pastor and is responsible for the day-to-day school administration, community relations, finances and development. 

    The successful candidate must be a faith-filled, practicing son or daughter of the Church who wants to marry the best of the heritage of Catholic education with innovative methods. A strong applicant would be described by colleagues as an educator, a manager, a communicator, a leader, a strategic planner, a consensus-builder. If you are a seasoned Catholic teacher and administrator familiar with how Catholic schools are evolving nationally, we want you to apply. Minimum requirements include a Master’s Degree in School Administration or in another academic area with appropriate education courses as well as at least five years of teaching experience in a Catholic school. All appropriate Virginia State and Diocese of Arlington certifications must be obtained within three years of hire.

    The start date for the position is July 1, 2018. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications, experience and Diocesan guidelines.
