    The Office of Communications is seeking a Coordinator of Internal Communication to help support the Church’s mission to evangelize by serving the parishes of the Diocese of Arlington through compelling and beautiful use of new and traditional media, effective media relations, and internal and external communications.  


    The Coordinator of Internal Communication is responsible for coordinating internal communications for the Diocese of Arlington.  The Coordinator serves as the lead agent in ensuring effective and coherent communications from the diocesan Central Administrative Offices to parishes, schools and other external audiences.




    • Draft and implement annual internal communications strategy which propels the bishop’s priorities through effective internal communications with consistent “look and feel”.


    • Oversee diocesan graphic design and standards, guidelines and implementations to ensure unity and professionalism in areas including: publications, newsletters, email signatures, phone introductions, voicemail messages, business cards, and flyers.


    • Provide training to all CAO staff on diocesan internal communications policy, guidelines and best practices.


    • Coordinate with CAO offices to oversee and update diocesan calendar of events, initiatives and programs.


    • Advise and assist diocesan ministries and offices with writing and copy-editing services, best practices and communications strategies to promote events, initiatives and programs.


    • Manage Office of Communications phone line and email inboxes for Communications, Directory, FYI, responding to routine requests directly or routing requests to others for response.


    • Oversee production and dissemination of bi-weekly FYI, annual Diocesan Directory, Annual Financial Report, and Annual Child Protection and Victim Assistance Report.


    • Create forums for counterparts in Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, the Virginia Catholic Conference, and the ArlingtonCatholic Herald in order to identify areas of collaboration and visual consistency.


    • Assist the Bishop’s Delegate for Evangelization and Media on as-needed basis with researching, drafting, or copy editing communications materials.


    • Perform additional duties as assigned.


    Position Requirements:


    • Knowledge/Skills:  Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills.  Able to create basic documents, spreadsheets, presentations and emails using MS Word, Excel, Power Point and MS Outlook; to apply critical thinking to solve problems in an everyday work setting; to be an active listener; to articulate ideas clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing; to work collaboratively, foster teamwork and address conflict as it arises; to develop, manage and evaluate programs, to align individual program goals with strategic goals and objectives and to formulate recommendations to improve program delivery and management; to work and complete follow up activities independently; to solicit personal feedback and make changes when needed.  In-depth understanding of and commitment to Catholic teachings and practices; basic knowledge of social media and corresponding tools and platforms; excellent written and oral communications skills; ability to handle multiple tasks and to work well under pressure; working knowledge of best practices in public relations field.
    • Education:  BS or BA in communications, public relations journalism, or related field.
    • Licenses/Certifications:  Must maintain a current driver’s license.
    • Years and Types of Experience:  Three to five years professional experience in communications, public relations, or marketing.
