San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, chairman of
the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Subcommittee for the
Promotion and Defense of Marriage, will speak on marriage and
religious liberty in America Nov. 19 at St. Raymond of
Peñafort Church, 8750 Pohick Rd., Springfield, at 7:30
p.m.
Since taking the helm of the archdiocese, he has been under
constant public attack for his strong and outspoken defense
of the church's moral teachings, especially with regard to
same-sex attraction and same-sex marriage. In June he was the
subject of a nationally publicized letter from 78 politicians
and activists, including California's lieutenant governor and
the mayor of San Francisco, criticizing his defense of
marriage.
