Blessed Sacrament students receive scholarships in memory of former student

First slide

Eighth-graders from Blessed Sacrament School in Alexandria participated in an hour-long run/walk around the school parking lot in early October to honor Leslie George, a former student who died as a result of anorexia and bulimia.

The annual memorial scholarship run/walk raises awareness of eating disorders and also provides financial assistance to two seventh-graders.

Dani Salinas and Maddie Wojciak received partial scholarships recognizing them as exemplifying Christian values as student athletes.

The scholarship fund was created by Blessed Sacrament and the George family. The fund also is used for an annual donation in Leslie’s memory to an organization aimed at assisting those affected by eating disorders.

George graduated from Blessed Sacrament, Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria in 1999 and pursued a college degree at James Madison University in Harrisonburg. She died Sept. 29, 2000, at age 19.
