Nativity students participate in rocketry challenge

First slide

Six seventh-graders from Nativity School in Burke participated in the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) Finals May 18. The team was first in Virginia, beating 75 teams statewide. They took home third place for best presentation and took 15th place overall among more than 800 teams competing in 2019.

Nativity students, mentored by Trip Barber, built five rockets, participated in eight launch days with 38 total flights and more than 200 hours of total work. They flew more than 30,000 feet and only had one exploded rocket.

TARC is the world’s largest student rocket contest, with nearly 5,000 students competing nationwide. It was created in 2002 as a one-time celebration of the Centennial of Flight but became an annual program.
