Kenneth Lucas has been named head football coach at Bishop
O’Connell High School in Arlington. Previously, Lucas served as director of
football operations, special teams coordinator and position coach at Howard University
in Washington.
Prior to Howard, he was assistant head coach at Morgan State
University in Baltimore, Md., for two seasons, and head coach at Gonzaga
College High School in Washington for six seasons.
“Coach Lucas is a proven winner,” said O’Connell Athletic
Director Joe Wootten. “He is committed to building positive relationships with
his players. We feel he fits in perfectly with the mission-driven approach of
O’Connell’s athletic department.”
“I am humbled and honored to have been offered the opportunity to
lead Bishop O’Connell’s football program,” said Lucas. “I am excited to play a
small part in the maturation and personal growth of student-athletes and others
on campus.”
Lucas has won three consecutive Washington Catholic Athletic
Conference (WCAC) championship games and was named WCAC Coach of the Year
twice. He has a bachelor of science from the University of Delaware in Newark
and a master’s from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. In addition to
coaching, Lucas will also serve as co-director of student life at O’Connell.
