Science fair winners

The diocesan Science Fair, held last month at Paul VI
Catholic High School, drew seventh- and eighth-graders from
35 schools as well as a home school association.
First- and second-place winners in 13 categories received
monetary awards thanks to the diocesan PTOs. Trophies were
presented to the top three schools: St. Veronica in Chantilly
won first place; Holy Spirit School in Annandale won second
place; and St. Joseph School in Herndon won third place. The
schools were ranked by taking the average scores of the
participating schools who had at least five students
attending.

First-place winners in their categories include:
Behavorial and Social Sciences: Natalia Lopez, St. Andrew the
Apostle School in Clifton; Biochemistry: Elizabeth Thibodeau,
St. Timothy School in Chantilly; Botany: Amanda Fernandez,
St. Charles School in Arlington; Chemistry: Claire Taylor,
St. Louis School in Alexandria; Computer Science: Konrad
Siebor, St. Joseph School in Herndon; Earth and Space
Science: Merrick Klunder, St. Bernadette School in
Springfield; Engineering: Timothy Snyder, Holy Spirit School
in Annandale; Environmental Sciences: Julianne Miranda, Holy
Spirit School in Annandale; Mathematics: Braden Hoagland,
Holy Spirit School in Annandale; Medicine and Health: Skylar
Chumley, St. Veronica School in Chantilly; Microbiology: Emma
Downes, All Saints School in Manassas; Physics: Nathan
Skouby, St. Andrew the Apostle School in Clifton; Zoology:
Victoria Sardegna, Corpus Christi School in Falls Church.
