Two religious sisters in the Diocese of Arlington marked jubilee anniversaries with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael F. Burbidge at St. Luke Church in McLean Feb. 1. Benedictine Sister Charlotte Lange and Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary Sister Jacqueline Ann Murphy, who was unable to attend, were recognized for decades of service to the church. Following Mass, a celebratory luncheon was served.

Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary Sister Jacqueline Ann Murphy
Sister Jacqueline Ann Murphy, known as Sister Jackie, was born April 11, 1934, in New York City, N.Y. The eldest of seven, she attended Cathedral Girls High School in New York City before receiving multiple degrees including a bachelor’s in history, English and education; a master’s in classics and linguistics; and a bachelor’s and master’s of science in nursing.
She made her profession of first vows in 1955 and final profession in 1960. As part of her assignments, she has taught at Sacred Heart of Mary affiliated schools in New York, Virginia, Canada and Zimbabwe. She served as director of hospital staff and development at Washington Hospital Center. Currently, she volunteers with Hospice/Capital Caring at Halquest in-patient unit in Arlington.

Benedictine Sister Charlotte Lange
Benedictine Sister Charlotte Lange was born Feb. 8, 1940 in Richmond. She attended St. Benedict School and St. Gertrude High School in Richmond. She received her bachelor’s from Brescia College in Owensboro, Ky., a master’s from Spalding University in Louisville, Ky., and honorary doctorates from Marymount University in Arlington and Abbey University in Belmont, N.C.
She made her first profession of vows in 1960 and has taught and served as principal at multiple schools in Richmond, as well as Bristow. She currently serves as a board member for BEACON adult literacy at St. Benedict Monastery.
