Mark Arbeen was ordained a permanent deacon for the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter for former members of the Anglican tradition at Immaculate Conception Church in Washington Feb. 22.

The convert, father of two and head of the chaplaincy program of the U.S. Secret Service was trained with other diaconal candidates in the Diocese of Arlington, where he resides.

Arbeen was ordained by Bishop Steven J. Lopes of the Personal Ordinariate for the parish of St. Luke, which worships at Immaculate Conception.

Catholic priests and deacons as well as Protestant clergy attended. Arbeen’s wife, children, godmother, birth mother and other friends and family members were present to see his journey from Episcopalian layman to Catholic deacon come to fruition.
